 Eyes of beauty

Here are some amazing tips for a better life in 2008.  One of my close friends Chris sent this post to me on Facebook.  I inquired as to who the author was, but he didn’t know, it was a chain email that was sent to him.  Whoever it was, the Tips are amazing…  The photo was taken by Chris (it’s his girlfriend Nadia)

  1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the
    ultimate anti-depressant.

  2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock if you have
    to.
  3. Buy a DVR and tape your late night shows and get more sleep.
  4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, ‘My
    purpose is to __________ today.’
  5. Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
  6. Play more games and read more books than you did in 2007.
  7. Make time to practice meditation, yoga, tai chi, and prayer. They
provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.
  8. Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.
  9. Dream more while you are awake.
  10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is
    manufactured in plants.
  11. Drink green tea and plenty of water.. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan
    salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts.
  12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
  13. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and
    flowing energy into your life.
  14. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip, issues of
the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest
your energy in the positive present moment.
  15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are
simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class
but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
  16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a
college kid with a maxed out charge card.
  17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the energy flowing.
  18. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
  19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
  20. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
  21. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
  22. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
  23. Don’t compare your life to others’. You have no idea what their journey
    is all about.
  24. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
  25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: ‘In five years, will
    this matter?’
  26. Forgive everyone for everything.
  27. What other people think of you is none of your business.
  28. GOD heals almost everything.
  29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
  30. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will.
    Stay in touch.
  31. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
  32. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
  33. The best is yet to come.
  34. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
  35. Do the right thing!
  36. Call your friends often. (Or email them to death!!!) Hey I’m thinking
    of ya!
  37. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am
    thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.
  38. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
  39. Enjoy the ride. Remember this is not Disney World and you certainly
don’t want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the
most of it and enjoy the ride.                                                               Anonymous
  40. I recently wrote a follow up post to this one regarding the notorious # 28 “God heals almost everything”.  It’s about the most important questions in life.  I hope you will take the time to read this new post and add comments on what you think are the most essential questions one must answer in their lifetime.  Here is the Link: A debate on the most Important questions in Life.

Your feedback on this debate is greatly appreciated.  Cheers

    #28
    Way to ruin it.

  2. Ah, quite wonderful. It seems such simplicities pass us by constantly. A hard thing to see. One day. Could deal without 28 though. Not sure if people should rely on ’someone else’ to do their healing. It’s more a matter of understanding and realization. All is well though. No worries.

    Be happy?

  3. Joe Bonham

I agree with Jimbo. #28 ruins the truthfulness of this entire post, because according to those who believe in #28, everything in this list is all taken care of in that one sentence………. riiiight……….

  4. Vitus Wight

With all of these self healing tips #28 stands out like a sore thumb.

god doesn’t exist as a singular thing. We are all omnipotent, we are all powerful and we are all god.

the religious use of it makes you weak of mind and weak of soul. dont use it as a crutch.

Blame yourself, Love yourself and forgive yourself.

  5. One can only agree with the two other comments on #28
Without it the tips apply to people from all walks of life.
“Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will.
Stay in touch.” Great if you are jobless.
“Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.” (that is almost everything.)
“Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.”
(Great, I assure you that I do want a job, then money earned can be used to go out on dates and have a life…)

I’ll have to agree to disagree thinking that these tips do not apply to everyone and anyone.

  6. halcyonsting

Could just add another “O” to that #28 one… it would make perfect sense then.

  7. Everyman

Fucking 28, man!! Ruined my whole life!! I’m gonna go kill myself now.

    Screw you guys.

  8. ELBSeattle

I’ve read several postings like this one. I find them all exceedingly irritating. And this was before I got to the inane #28. God heals almost everything? What about that percentage that doesn’t get healed? Is it basically God saying, “Sorry, didn’t feel like healing you. Screw you, amputees…”
The other ‘amazing tips’ are just plain stupid. Are these amazing tips that people have actually gone through the trouble of testing out? ‘The best is yet to come’? WTF? I thought this was a song by Frank Sinatra, not an amazing tip.’Do the right thing!’ Good lord. Gee. I was going to do the wrong thing, but, see, I read these amazing tips so now I’m going to do the right thing instead. Wow! My life just got so much more amazing!

  9. Mandy

    Actually, I like # 28. :-)

  10. budPig

    A lock doesn’t stop noise.

  11. NJCREAM

    my thoughts exactly jimbo

  12. JM

Wow. Reading the above postings was a special experience. It’s as though #28 ruined the day for everyone who read it. I’m agnostic or atheist or I don’t really know what, but it’s really irrelevent. I’m just blown away by the negativity that one comment can provoke in people who are logging on to a website based on “enlightenment.” My personal advice would be to “Fucking lighten up.” But perhaps more sage advice would be what a buddhist monk once told me when I struggled with one of the teachings: “Ignore that teaching. If it is a roadblock to accepting the good parts in the other passages, then you must discard it. Maybe one day you will feel differently about it, maybe not, but don’t let it get in the way of the parts which are helpful to you.” That’s my two cents. Feel free to get angry, I won’t.

  13. I agree. #28 - why??

  14. Jessica

I agree whole-heartedly with JM, you’re post was actually very inspiring.
Sure maybe some of you don’t believe in God, I’m not sure I do, but what does it matter? The rest of the post was very insightful.

  15. Fuck you, guys, I am not in the mood to heal you today, I got a game of spacegolf ongoing, and I am at the wethole 7teen :)

  16. Tj

What does God stand for to most people, Christian or something else, that take part in a monotheistic religion?

Love. Plenty of other pieces of advice written on this page have to be taken with a grain of salt; you have to accept that there are exceptions to the advice as not many articles of counsel are infallible in that they apply every where and all the time.

Why pick on the one that involves an idea of love in its purest state? You may not believe that the idea is real. I beg to differ. Ideas are abstract in the first place, and as long as someone fathoms them, they exist in my opinion.

What if people ignored the question of Christianity’s integrity of existence to just see what the thing was prlly created for? What if everyone’s life revolved around the spread of love?
People spread religion out of love, they want others to be safe and have a greater meaning, but that is not what I’m trying to get across.

Religion is like a “fake out”-reference to Randy Pausch- or a trick to make you learn or do something else. Religion is like a parent, and it is structured to make you love. How? by following this supposed being, God. Why? so you can live forever.

There is more than one type of pain.

  17. Susannah

Kinda funny, that #28 had such an impact on those that chose to respond here. It’s just interesting to me that people are offended by “God”. Really people… isn’t God what you make him/her/it/them? If you don’t like it, skip it! Relax & realize that you’re never going to agree with EVERYTHING you read online & that what you agree with, the next person may not. It’s your choice to not like #28… but why make such an issue about it?

I think this is a great post… including #28 (even though I don’t necessarily believe that, I’m certainly not offended by it’s presence)!

  18. curt

if god doesn’t exist, how are we here right now?

how is it a crutch to believe in something that’s real?

And I’m sorry if you’re offended by the word GOD, stop. Because everyone else isn’t offended by what you say instead.

  19. Simon Perry

The whole list stinks, you’ve obviously never had anything really bad happen to you, I’ve bookmarked the page for comedy value.

  20. Big Col

Well,i never even noticed #28 till you all started moaning about it!No wonder gods turned off his headphones with you lot shouting.

  21. hawkins

    ::Challenge:: for future posters:
Don’t include in your post the number that comes right after 27 and before 29, or that word that is usually capitalized and rhymes with ‘rod’.

Posts regarding that number and word have already exhausted the point. Yes, even that other one you were about to make about it. Thank you! :)

  22. Topliner

For Christians, God is everything. I am from the Methodist tradition. I know God loves me and he loves you. Christians read the Bible to find out about God and how to live and be closer to Him. There is something in our Wesleyan tradition that speaks of understanding scripture better by applying Reason, Experience, and Tradition. If you question God and your relationship with Him I suggest trying prayer for a year and if at the end of that year you have not changed in any way then go back to the way you’re currently living with nothing lost but possibly a lot to gain.

  23. Matthew

Sorry Hawkins, there will simply be more posts about God. There will also be more posts about how terrible this list is. You knew it when you made your post. I appreciate your attempt though. I agree, there is too much noise in the world. However, the solution, as far as I can tell, is more discourse, not less. I think a greater challenge to future posters would be to try and understand why or how people have written what they have written. From the spectrum of ELBSeattle to JW and everything beyond and in between, those experiences and opinions expressed are just humanity. God is many things to many people. For curt, God is a real and actual singular being. For me, I just substitute the word, “Coincidence.”

“First Coincidence made heaven & earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of Coincidence was moving over the face of the waters.”

I am going to pray to Coincidence now. Sometimes he answers my prayers. Sometimes he doesn’t. Whatever Coincidence decides, at least I have someone to talk to when I am alone.

  24. Jimbo2

consider the before monday god of the bible… before he got so busy …thats why we can get uptight ,shortsighted and narrow minded.. we relate to that busy dualality as well…be aware of before monday god …we are none other.

  25. AtheistTruth

Wow yea I was loving this list until I got to 28. Great way to trash a list of some good pieces of advice.

  26. astrocity

    Hi,

i do not understand why everyone complains that much against the quote 28, just get from the list what fits more with your way of seeing things

I do not agree with 28 but i find the list very nice…

  27. Faenix

    First off, JM.
That was… indescribable. I knew Buddhism had something to it, and that was it.
I’m going to be truthful and say that once I read that, I got chills down my spine. Not even joking.

And to Hawkins, too bad it didn’t work. T:

  28. Sarah

So I just have to say….I love all your complaining.
    Doesn’t it defeat the purpose?

  29. JM

Hey Faenix, good or bad chills? Just curious. Thanks.

    JM.

  30. Maybe The Higgs Boson particle the God PArticle .I forgot to use the ultimate healing consciousness until after reading and the writing this.A cough, a cold, and a niggly few moments in marriage.God that thing, that whatever it is…that triangle of truths? That which is whatever is left when you are looking at the wall.A robot’s self awakening Wall*E,deep down, past the growling, let it beat your conscious mind and guide from a transcended within, and compassionately observed without.

  31. #28 did not need to be there.
I don’t need to be converted by a freakin’ piece of chain mail.
    Thumbs down, man, thumbs down.

  32. Jonathan

    Author,
I would like to thank everyone for their comments on this post which has been my most successful post to date. Positive or negative, I appreciated all the feedback. So in light of this post I decided to follow it up with a question about: “What are the most important questions in life”. I hope that you will all take the time to leave some comments so we can all learn from each others experience in life; good or bad. Here is the follow up post that asks an important question about who we are, Who is God, happiness, and much more. I look forward to all your feedback as we try to unravel a little about life’s mysteries. http://enlightenyourday.com/2008/07/03/a-debate-on-the-most-important-questions-in-life/

  33. eatinpaper

#36 would actually get me to hate somebody. I’d get really aggravated if I got 10 e-mails from ONE PERSON in a matter of a day with ‘hey whats up?????’ ‘i miss you!!!!!!!!!!1′ ‘how ahve you beem ?!!?!?????/’ ‘im thinking of youu!!!!!!!!!!!’
Calling every other day I’d be okay with, same with e-mailing and aim and everything else… but don’t OD, please… unless you have something interesting to say, something I haven’t already heard

  34. Devon

Good tips, but the comments and debate about God ruined it.

  35. Helkitten

A typical dark spot of human nature came out here - instead of appreciating the intention of the list and the lovely suggestions, the only one that hinted to religion is slagged. It was not intended to force religion down anyones throat. It was simply an opinion aired which everyone has the right to do, as does Jimbo. How easy it was to keep slagging instead of find the good ones and highlighting that?
We can all be so damn silly.

  36. Rog

    # 28 Surely If you do believe (I think you’re deluded but hey everyone is entitled to their view)then God does heal everything(for you). If you don’t it’s irrelevant, why get worked up over something you don’t believe exists?

  37. Fred Flintstone

I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much.

  38. Nick

This is a great post. Has some very psychosynthetic, transpersonal points that I like. and as for #28. Think of it more as a Namaste thing. It’s the god in all of us. I am agnostic. But I am also a very spiritual person. I believe that everyone has the potential of divinity.

  39. IronMan

I cant believe how weak minded you people are …..with no control …. you let a simple quote control your emotions and get you all uptight …. no wonder you have so many bad experiences ….

  40. Hi, thank you so much for these tips for better living. So simple, but so effective! You made my day, I love your site, it’s a joy tot read your articles.

  41. it is wonderfull site man … keep it up. i came across u r site accidently when i was in a stress, the article these tips for better living gave me good energy. thank you.

  42. #28 is ignorant… nice list though! Thanks for sharing!

  43. Anonymous

    Awesome!

  44. Anonymous

    Yeah. Thumbs down on 28.

  45. It surprises me how much people dislike #28 and also how trite some people can find this advice, when in actuality if one applies these, life does become a lot more balanced.

Perhaps it is the concept that people have of God and their fear of the word God because of it which makes so many have adverse reactions to the word.

If it were seen as something everywhere present, including in us as us, it would not be seen as a crutch, nor something outside of ourselves we are depending on. It would rather be, acknowledging our own content and connection to all of life everywhere.

  46. time

    time heals most things

Maybe the author agrees with your definition of ‘god’ and understands it in a similar way as you
