Always heard about the book but never got a chance to read it till this past festive season, decided to get the book & finish it before the yr end, cause i knew there were some profound truths & principles that i can carry with me into the new yr.

I stayed up all night reading the alchemist, when I realised i was halfway through i tried to read as slowly as possible so I dont finish, sad to say Ive finished it in less than 48 hours.

Its such an enlightening book I havent stopped talking bout it.

This yr i decided not to set any resolutions but like young Santiago I pledged to listen to my heart & follow my dreams!!!

“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too” by Paulo Coelho is one of my favorite lines in the Alchemist. It touches on what is true, which is that we as individuals have the choice to make our lives “better.” We can lead lives consisting of dreams fulfilled and goals accomplished. Choosing to exude positive energy can and will lead one to exist in a better place in this life.

  12. karen williams says:

    Hi Jonathan,
Life really is miraculous and magical.
Paulo Coelho’s book The Alchemist happened to me in real life!!!!!!!!!

I lived in Andalusia, Spain, and had a powerful dream after visiting my favourite ruin overlooking the Mediterranean. I am not a shepherd, and when this happened I had never heard of The Alchemist.

Fifteen years later I have written the book about my journey.
TREASURE – A Soul Journey with The Alchemist.

I have contacted Paulo to tell him.
It will be out in April this year. For more information, my website will come out in April too. http://www.goinggreek.org
    Much love

  16. Alaa Alramadan says:

when u are loved , u can see the meaning of the heart .when u are loved , u can see the meaning of fear goes out from the door

  17. madison lambcke says:

i have not read it all but i have heard it was really good

  18. Norfolk enchants says:

I refer to the comment left about page 23, how do you think this applies to the people in such hopeless desperate situations , as many thousands are in Parkistan? Can this work for them too!!?

    • Shawn says:

No matter what your situation, you still must follow your dreams. You can’t give up. I can’t say I’ve been in a dire a situation as those in Pakistan or suffered through a catastrophe like Katrina or the earthquakes seen in Haiti, but I’ve been through my own turmoil and dispair. It wasn’t until I decided to go after what I wanted and changed my outlook did I see some of my intentions come into reality. We all have that ability, if we choose to perservere and live out our destiny.

  19. assassinator says:

the quotes reveal the future and the wisdom in alchemy

  20. Nishad jose says:

He is a real winner , winners do not do different things but they do things differently. i like too

  21. Lianshey says:

what a brilliant mind he has.. I am a writer, and I really love his books, really can take me to the world of dreams I have that was left buried behind the facade…

  22. Jesse Batista says:

This is truly more than a book, this is the most valuable gift ever given to the world.

  23. Jim Warner says:

I’d have to say that my favorite part of The Alchemist was its implicit depiction of Christian doctrine as objective truth. Toward the end of the book, the alchemist tells Santiago a story of the two brothers, one of which said something that would be forever remembered in the hearts of many. That phrase was “Lord I am not worthy to come under your roof, but only say the word and my servant shall be healed.”
I also thought of some interesting hidden meaning behind the book’s setting at the beginning and end. It both begins and ends in the sacristy of an old church. A sacristy, where the priest prepares for the Mass, I viewed as analogous to the Eucharist (I am speaking of Catholic doctrine here). It is written in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, that the Eucharist is the “source and summit” of one’s faith. Might Coelho have been symbolizing this doctrine in his novel by initiating the plot and ending the story in a sacristy? Not to mention that the treasure, the realization of his Personal Legend, was located here also.

    • Jonathan says:

Thanks for contributing a little insight Jim. I agree with you. I love how the book begins and ends in the same place. His personal treasure was right there at the beginning all along.

      Peace

      Jonathan

  24. tkumarr says:

This is realy extraordinary. Alchemist is suppose to be a representative of every heart, what a person think & wt r his desires and how many stones r unturned in his life.. Thanks Paulo Coehlo

  26. Ray says:

The best book on Earth. True meaning. Took all dreaming into prespective and says follow your heart and eventually you will end up where you are the happiest. I love this book! read it in only 8th grade and knew that it spoke of great things!

  27. ... says:

I treat this book as a second bible, it is amazing with some profond and deep philosophical stuff in it, i want to know live my life and follow my heart to discover my own Personal Legend

  28. gerrie says:

this is a truly truly wonderful book. my favorite quote is from the part he was talking about love and explains that you do not need to have a reason to love someone he says “one is loved because one is loved”

  29. very inspirational book. paolo coelho is a great writer, he inspires his reader. & all the quotes he contributes in our heart and brain are really amazing. ^_^
